The PHP Community located in central Monrovia is set to be transformed into a modern Sport Park, named and Styled: the PHP Unity Sport Park as President George Manneh Weah has  broken grounds for the a sporting complex.

 

The Modern PHP Unity Sport Park, which is expected to be built and Completed under a period 12 months according to President Weah, will definitely have Children’s playground, a recreational center, football pitches, gyms, among others modern infrastructure.

“I have been informed that, when completed, hopefully within the next twelve months, this multi-million dollars PHP UNITY SPORTS PARK will contain a full outdoor gym, a children’s playground, two football fields, two basketball courts, and two volleyball courts, as well as a boardwalk, the President said.

President Weah in addition remarks, said the facility will provide citizens of Monrovia and it’s environs, as well as those from other parts of Liberia, with a modern, multi-purpose sports and recreation facility that will contribute to their good health, fitness, and well-being.  As a public park, it will be freely accessible and available to anyone and everyone who seeks to use it, the President said.

The President his commitment to infrastructure development, the Liberian leader said the groundbreaking of the PHP Unity Sport Park, is yet another step forward in the Pro-Poor agenda for development (PAPD) drive to address the infrastructure deficit which, his Government has inherited, and continues to face with. 

“Today has brought me yet another opportunity to realize my dreams and aspirations for the happiness and well-being of our citizens. “Throughout my entire career as a professional football player, which took me to many parts of the world in pursuit of my dream, I always admired the scale of development that I saw, and wondered how this could be brought to bear in my own country, President Weah said.

The President than applauded the Liberian Government partner the United Arab Emirates (UAE), whom will take full support of the project and it’s Completion, the Liberian leader said in a narrative: during my visit in 2019 to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, as President of Liberia, I requested cooperation and assistance from the UAE for the development of infrastructure in Liberia. 

“Among several infrastructural projects which were identified for consideration at that time, I proposed the concept of a sports and recreational facility to be built in Monrovia along one of our famous beach communities – PHP Community,” he adds.

This community not only has a strong history of producing great athletes, but is also a historical place which reminds us all of the importance of peace and unity, President Weah said.

The Liberian Chief Executive added that the PHP Unity Sport Park was one of his first project, but due to deadly hit of the Coronavirus Pandemic the project was delayed:

“This project was one of the first to be approved, although delayed by the COVID pandemic and the tendering process, it will be sponsored almost entirely by resources provided by the Government of the UAE through the Abu Dhabi Fund, President Weah disclose.

As he plauded his counterpart Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Crown Prince of ABU Dhabi for the collaboration in making his dream to reality”I would therefore like to thank my dear friend and brother, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, for once again keeping his promise to collaborate with us in tangible ways towards achieving our developmental agenda.  

This is a demonstration of the productive and strategic bilateral and multilateral relationships that my Administration has continued to forge with the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), to develop all sectors of our country, said President Weah.

President Weah express hope that the completion of the PHP Unity Sport Park and other Sporting infrastructure around the country will change the story of poverty lines during his childhood days.

Without these informal outlets for recreation, relaxation, and sports, our urban youth have today been constrained to look elsewhere for their amusement, and many of them have unfortunately been driven to form new and unwholesome habits, including the use of illicit drugs.

Meanwhile, the multi-purpose PHP Unity Sport Park, which will also contain Restaurants, a grandstand, a souvenir shop, and a National Unity Monument and including an administrative building, car parks, and adequate sanitary and security facilities, will be fully financed by the  United Arab Emirates (UAE) as part of its bilateral and multilateral relationships with Liberia.

On his part, Trokon Kpui, Minister of State Without Portfolio at the Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs and Head of the Presidential Delivery Unit, thanked the President for his commitment to infrastructure development, he than lauded the United Arab Emirates UAE for undertaking the ambition to constructs the modern Sport Park.

Minister Kpui also seized the opportunity to contractors to employ some of the locals to assist in the construction works, He urged the residents of the area to support the contractor to complete on time and keep an eye on the engineering tools and equipment for the work to be able to complete it in time.

Residents of PHP Community whom spoke to LPR TV – expressed their profound gratitude toward President George Weah for the job well done by breaking ground for the construction of a modern Sport Park, which will help transform the youth.

They promise to make themselves available for work to help assist the contractors to complete the project on schedule. “We thank God for our developmental president, we love you George and willing to make ourselves available to help aid the work process, Peter Menyongar a resident said.

It is the second multi-purpose park in less than a year, after the Liberian leader broke ground for multi-purpose Invincible Sports Park, situated along the Airfield, sinkor route with Construction works near completion.
