Government’s spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly has announced what appeared to be the adoption of a decree on the creation, allocation, organization and operation of a Media Support and Development Agency (ASDM).

The new agency replaces the Support and development of the press (FSDP), and was adopted at the end of the council of ministers held on Wednesday May 04, 2022 at the presidential palace, in Abidjan-Plateau.

According to Mr. Coulibaly, this decree and that of the dissolution of the FSDP intervene in application of the law on the legal regime of the press of December 2017 which devotes public aid to the media with a view to ensuring the freedom of the press and guaranteeing correlatively the citizen’s right to information as prescribed in the constitution.

ASDM is responsible for supporting and assisting companies in the private media sector.

The spokesperson indicated that public aid to the media will thus extend to all stakeholders in the printing press, audiovisual communication and digital sectors and to those in the information production chain sector, or to the entire value chain of the press and media sector.

During the council, the Government adopted 10 general measures comprising two draft laws and ordinance and eight draft decrees and five communications the statement concluded.
