Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County – The Ministry of Youth and Sports, in collaboration with Orange Liberia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has launched an assessment exercise in Grand Gedeh County for the establishment of a Digital Hub designed to expand digital access and empower local communities.

The proposed hub will serve as a free public resource center equipped with modern technology and educational tools. Once operational, it will provide a range of digital and educational programs aimed at helping young people and community members acquire valuable ICT and digital skills.

Project stakeholders revealed that the facility will feature a computer laboratory, reliable internet connectivity, digital learning platforms, and other essential resources. These services are expected to foster education, innovation, entrepreneurship, and professional development through targeted training opportunities.

The Digital Hub is envisioned as a cornerstone in bridging the digital divide in Grand Gedeh by improving access to information, enhancing digital literacy, and preparing young people for opportunities in today’s technology-driven world.

As part of the ongoing assessment, representatives from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Orange Liberia, and UNDP visited the County Superintendent’s office, Grand Gedeh University, and the Zwedru Youth Center on Tuesday to identify a suitable location for the project.

Local officials view the initiative as a significant step toward advancing the county’s development agenda. It also reflects the government’s broader commitment to youth empowerment through digital transformation and innovation.

Speaking during the assessment, Mr. George Dugbeh, County Coordinator of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, emphasized that the project aligns with decentralization efforts championed by Minister Hon. Cornelia Wonkerleh Kruah. He noted that the initiative underscores the ministry’s determination to ensure development opportunities reach communities across Liberia.
